Hands together guide

CADENCE — HANDS TOGETHER

Library → a piano piece → Practise this piece.
Choose Play: Hands together, 1–8 reviewed bars and a comfortable 40–160 bpm.
If a saved one-staff session opens, use Choose another phrase first.

1. An opening pass
Play both staves once. There is one bar of count-in, then no guiding click or
partner. Keep going through mistakes; this is a starting point, not a gate.
Cadence chooses a smaller focus from the pitch/entrance results and keeps ties
whole. The full piece stays visible around the highlighted bars.

2. Either hand with a partner
In Focus choose Right hand or Left hand. Right means the upper written staff;
left means the lower. Cadence plays the other staff through its sampled piano.
The partner, click, count-in and score cursor share one timeline. It keeps going
through mistakes. Choose a slower tempo or restart if that helps. Use your
keyboard's own sound for the part you play; this release adds no live piano monitor.

Turn off Cadence plays the other hand for a solo pass. One or three loops are
available, each with a new count-in and its own saved result. Tapping the combined
rhythm remains available. The three small checks indicate saved attempts only.
They do not measure mastery or lock either hand behind the other.

3. Bring them together
Choose Both hands at a comfortable focus tempo. Cadence's partner is off; the
click remains. After a saved together pass, Back into the phrase returns to the
original bars and opening tempo. Both hands play with only a count-in.

4. Let it settle
The phrase joins Learn → Practice & review → Bring it back. The first delayed return uses both
hands, partner off and no guiding click. Listening, restarts and supported
retries remain separate from independent evidence. The existing spaced-review
policy is unchanged. Practice outside Cadence cannot be detected.

TAKES AND FEEDBACK
Every completed piano pass records your own MIDI presses, releases, touch and
sustain. Cadence's partner audio is not included. Shape the phrase offers replay
and comparison; compare takes of the same bars, staves and partner setting.
Two-staff takes have no connected-melody measurements. Timing and pitch feedback
can show the written staff, but MIDI cannot prove which hand played a key.
A written unison in both staves counts as one physical press.

SCOPE
Two notation staves in a piano/keyboard part; 2/4, 3/4 or 4/4; at most 60 seconds,
256 attacks and ten simultaneous keys. Both staves must contain notes in the
selected passage. Very fast combined entrances (under 120 ms), incomplete ties,
unreviewed PDF pages and overlapping same-key holds/re-strikes across hands
need a different passage or single-staff practice. Repeats use written order.
Cross-staff notation and hand crossings need your judgement; there is no inferred
keyboard split, fingering or hand-technique grade.

Keyboard & timing offers the existing eight-tap calibration. Stops, navigation,
sleep and input/output changes cancel the entire pass; unfinished takes remain
ungraded. Save failures retain the completed take in memory for retry while the
app stays open. Changing either source staff blocks applying old results to the
new notes. Practice format 12 migrates older snapshots; older apps cannot write it.

No model calls or AI credits are needed. Virtual MIDI, native audio and desktop
checks cover this release; physical USB testing with the Roland FP-10 remains.

Make it flow now adds barline joins, optional tempo suggestions and thinning
click support inside focused practice. See Make it flow guide.txt.
