Across the fretboard

Start with the sound, then find a playable route across the neck.

Explore notes and shapes

Choose a root, scale or mode in Explore. The guitar and piano views show the same musical material. Set tuning, capo and handedness before working with positions.

Chord lab generates voicings from chord tones and tuning. It ranks compact shapes and familiar open/CAGED forms. There is no scraped chord-voicing database. Suggestions are starting points; your hand and musical context decide what is comfortable.

Triads across the neck

Use an original example or a suitable library progression. Choose a string set, see inversions, follow small movements between chords, then make a short response.

Microphone activities in this pathway listen for individual pitches. A guitar chord is not reliably assessed as six independent notes through this input.

Jazz guide tones

In Reharmonise and improvise, play the third and seventh through the chord changes. Hear a shape, imagine its resolution, and compare the bass under the same upper voices.

The guitar playing step is recorded as your own report. The improvisation recorder currently accepts piano/MIDI, not guitar microphone audio. A reflection on a guitar phrase is useful practice evidence, but it is not treated as a measured performance score.

Tuner and microphone

Open Practice tools → Tuner and allow microphone access when macOS asks. Use one clear note, reduce background sound and avoid letting app playback feed the microphone. Audio is analysed on the Mac.

Pitch detection can help with tuning, sung intervals and single-note ear-to-fretboard work. It does not establish fingering, string choice, tone quality or polyphonic accuracy.

Find your picking pattern

In Learn, choose a reviewed library passage and follow a trail from hearing and tapping to muted strings, one chord and the changes. Compare Travis picking, a classical arpeggio and strumming with linked notation and tab. The first version supports one to eight bars of 4/4 with chord changes at bar lines.

Hear the bass or upper strings alone, practise a two-bar join, then return to the whole phrase. At the creative finish, choose a pattern and accents and save a separate accompaniment in Studio. Its source piece lists it under My accompaniments; reopening it keeps your edits. Later, try an independent return before revealing the pattern.

The optional one-note microphone check stores pitch windows and signal-quality observations locally. You can inspect the trace and choose to discuss a summary with the coach. It does not grade the full pattern, exact timing, fingers or stroke direction. Tapping and technique reports remain clearly labelled self-assessment. These features are in current source; the 0.36.1 download predates them.
