Guided practice guide
CADENCE — PLAY WITH MIDI Open a composition or reviewed import, choose Practise passage, then select Play with MIDI in Studies. Select right hand, left hand or both notation staves. For an external MusicXML score the same controls use its printed staff numbers. In Settings → MIDI, select the Roland FP-10 USB input. Enable Listen to keyboard when ready. The physical keyboard has not been tested during this update. The highlighted position waits for the exact sounding notes. A chord requires its notes to be physically held together; octaves are part of the written music. This differs deliberately from the separate chord-quality exercise, which accepts inversions and octave doublings. You can add a missing chord note or release an extra one without restarting the phrase. Wrong fresh presses count as corrections. Duplicate incoming packets do not count twice. Sustained bass notes may remain held while the melody moves. Written ties do not need a second press, while repeated notes do. At the start of a selection, a note tied in from an earlier bar is played once to establish it. Rests are skipped by the untimed follower; they retain their positions in the notation. Release notes whose written duration has ended before advancing. Pedal sound cannot substitute for physically playing a chord's keys. The follower checks pitches and order, not rhythm, duration, pedal technique, fingering, dynamics or fluency. Completion is recorded as guided reading, not unassisted performance. Show next notes is an additional hint and is recorded. Playing from this guide does not earn a claim of mastery or lock later content. Pause keeps your place. Resume first waits for held keys to be released. Disconnecting, resetting MIDI, losing application focus or leaving the view stops input. Changing passage, part or hand starts a new pass. Restart passage clears the current unfinished pass. Source edits require a fresh practice copy. A title-only rename preserves the link. The score cursor follows each attack. With one staff selected, Hear other hand plays the other notation staff(s) in segments between your guided steps. Each segment starts when you reach its step and waits if you take longer. It is optional accompaniment, not a test of synchronization. Your FP-10 supplies the sound of the notes you play. When a pass finishes, Cadence saves first-time matches, extra hints, wrong-note presses and their bar positions. Retry bars offers the first difficult bar with one preceding bar for context. Each different passage/hand has its own review identity. A miss returns after ten minutes, support after twenty, and clean due reviews follow the shared 1/3/7/14/30/60-day schedule. Immediate clean repeats cannot inflate the spacing. Guided reviews appear in Practice when due. The result, review schedule and journal summary are one atomic practice save. If saving fails, the completed pass remains in memory with a save-again button. Keep the view open until it saves or explicitly discard it. Retrying a save cannot double-count the pass. No MIDI or audio is sent to a service. The latest detailed results for up to 256 selections are retained with practice progress; compact session summaries remain in the existing bounded journal. Discuss passage and Create a pathway can include the saved guided result for that exact selection. A piece's Tailor with AI option can include its recent current-version guided results when practice evidence is enabled. These are text summaries, clearly labelled with the limits of the untimed check. No model is called automatically. Manual passage comfort reports remain separate. Verification uses pure matching tests, temporary-storage integration tests and a packaged-app scenario with simulated MIDI passing through the real view input handler and offline notation renderer. Run ./verify.sh to repeat these checks. The test suite does not access a physical keyboard, microphone or paid model.
