CADENCE — A MUSICAL ANSWER OF YOUR OWN Start from Library → a piece → Learn. Choose a reviewed 1–4 bar melodic passage and work through Hear → imagine → sing → play. On the review screen, choose Write my answer. The same option stays available after the session is finished. YOUR ANSWER Cadence opens a separate composition, in the passage's key and meter, with the same number of bars. It starts with rests. Written chord changes are copied as suggestions; the melody is yours to write. Guitar keeps its tuning and capo. A source in an unsupported or changing meter needs a simpler passage first. Use Compose's note buttons, piano/fretboard, rhythm controls or MIDI step entry. Hear original replays the saved melodic voice at its original tempo. Hear my answer plays your complete composition once. After it finishes naturally, Save finished answer marks that version finished. Stopping early does not count as a full listen. Changed music needs another listen; renaming alone does not. Drafts save as you work, so you can leave and return without finishing. The composition appears under My compositions. Its source title, exact bars, part, voice, PDF pages where applicable, and score revision travel with it. Open original opens the whole source piece. Back to practice resumes the saved session. The source remains separate: editing the answer never edits it. If the original changes or is removed, your composition and saved reference remain. The link does not claim that the updated source is the same passage. Creative work is not assigned a correctness grade or used as proof of mastery. No AI request is involved. OPENING MUSIC Open notation / Open study in Library opens the full piece (selected part for MusicXML). Scroll within the score. Choose Focus on a passage in Compose, or Passage in Studies, after opening it. Explicit bar links from lessons and analyses still focus those bars. Focused practice keeps its existing size limits. Whole-piece playback keeps the five-minute audio limit; choose a passage for longer music. Written repeats/endings and tempo changes are still not performed. PLAY INSIDE THE MUSIC The reviewed passage's accompaniment now displays notation with a continuously moving line, count-in, beat lights and round progress. The cursor follows the same audio clock as the band and returns to the beginning on each round. MIDI pitch badges show physically held keys; the current melody pitch lights green when held. Muting the guide melody lets you take its part. These are live cues, not a timed-game score. There are no combo streaks or penalties, and comping is not judged against the melody. Existing Play in time in Studies provides separate timing checks and an input-offset exercise. For FP-10, connect USB, choose it in MIDI input, and use its own sound. A physical keyboard, live-microphone and learner trial remain to be done. TECHNICAL NOTES Editable score format 5 adds the optional creative-response link and completion revision. Formats 1–4 migrate on read; older app versions refuse newer scores. Practice stays format 7, courses format 2. Creation and completion save atomically in the score store before reporting success. A failed save can be retried without creating another response. Exported MusicXML carries the music; the source link is part of Cadence's local score file, not a portable MusicXML annotation.
